New Delhi (NVI): At least 10 people were killed after a three-storey building collapsed at Bhiwandi town in Thane district of Maharashtra early this morning.
The incident happened at around 3:40 am when the residents were asleep in the Patel Compound area of Bhiwandi, Thane.
The rescue operation by NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) is underway at the site of building collapse. A team of fire brigade and police are also working at the spot.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his condolences to the bereaved families and said that all possible assistance is being provided to the affected.

Earlier, reports said that at least 20-25 people were expected to be trapped in the building and a total of 25 people have been rescued so far.
NDRF team also rescued a child from under the debris at the site of building collapse and he has been rushed to a nearby hospital.
Around 20 families were staying inside the building which was built in 1984.
