2 Lashkar terrorists carried out the attack on BJP leader: J&K IGP

Srinagar (NVI): The attack on Bandipora’s BJP leader, Waseem Bari, was pre-planned, carried out by the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists while all the 10 personal security officers (PSOs) of the minister have been dismissed from their services and arrested as well, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar said today.

Speaking to the reporters at the residence of BJP leader in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, IGP said that he has examined the CCTV footage at the police station that is opposite to the BJP leader’s house in Muslimabad area of the district.

“We have checked the CCTV footage in presence of Army and CRPF officers. Two terrorists from Lashkar-e-Toiba have carried out the attack. One is a local who has been identified as Abid and another is a foreigner. Local terorrist Abid fired at the trio from a close range with a pistol while the other one was guiding him,” the IGP said. “The trio sustained head injuries and succumbed on the way to the hospital. We will track both the terrorists soon and neutralise them.”

Besides, Bari, his father Bashir Ahmed and brother Umar Bari were also killed in the attack that took place yesterday evening at their Muslimabad residence.

He said that the attack was pre-planned as BJP leader had visited his ward and returned home along with all the PSOs. “After entering his house, his PSOs had gone to their room and Bari went to his shop where his father and brother were also present,” the IGP said.

“The PSOs are being questioned,” IGP said. The IGP along with DIG north Kashmir and SSP Bandipora visited the slain BJP leader’s residence and offered their condolences to the family members.
