20,021 fresh cases take India’s COVID tally to 1.02 crore

New Delhi (NVI): India witnessed a single-day rise of 20,021 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 10,207,871, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has reached to 1,47,901 with 279 fatalities reported during this period.

Notably, 97,82,669 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases remained below 2.8 lakh mark and stands at 2,77,301.

However, the national recovery rate rises to 95.83 per cent in the country.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with total 19,19,550 confirmed cases which include 49,255 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 60,347 and 18,09,948 recoveries.

Maharashra is followed by Karnataka (9,16,456), Andhra Pradesh (8,81,061), Tamil Nadu (8,14,170) and Kerala (7,40,516).

The national capital also reported 757 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, pushing the tally to 6,22,851, while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,453 in Delhi.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 16.88 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 27. Of these, 7,15,397 samples were tested yesterday.

Furthermore, a two-day dry run for coronavirus vaccine administration program starts today in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and Assam.
