23,068 fresh cases take India’s COVID tally to 10.14 million

New Delhi (NVI): India witnessed a single-day rise of 23,068 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 10,146,846, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has reached to 1,47,092 with 336 fatalities reported during this period.

However, this is for the 5th consecutive day when fewer than 25,000 new cases, less than 350 deaths were reported in the country.

Notably, 97,17,834 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases remained below 3 lakh and stands at 2,81,919.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with total 19,09,951 confirmed cases which include 49,058 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 56,022 and 18,04,871 recoveries.

Maharashra is followed by Karnataka (8,29,640), Karnataka (9,13,483)Andhra Pradesh (8,80,075), Tamil Nadu (8,11,115) and Kerala (7,26,687).

The national capital also reported 1,063 new COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours, pushing the tally to 6,20,681, while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,384 in Delhi.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, more than 16.20 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 20. Of these, 9,00,134 samples were tested yesterday.

Furthermore, the India indigenous vaccine against the novel coronavirus, COVAXIN, has drawn global attention, ICMR stated.
