27th “Hunar Haat” inaugurated in Bhopal

New Delhi (NVI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today inaugurated the 27th “Hunar Haat”, a platform for products of indigenous master artisans at Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal.

The inauguration was done in the august presence of Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the Ministry of Minority Affairs said in a statement.

On the occasion, Chouhan said that, “Hunar (skill) is worship”. Bhopal is also a city of “Hunar” and it gives values to the talent. Artisans and craftsmen from all religions and sections of the society participate in the Hunar Haat.

He added that Naqvi has made the commitment to “Vocal for Local” a ground reality and Hunar Haat has increased significantly the sale of indigenous products of artisans, craftsmen.

“Hunar Haat is an effective platform of artisans and craftsmen. I appeal to the people of Madhya Pradesh to visit Hunar Haat to witness glimpse of India’s art and culture,” Chouhan said.

This “Hunar Haat” in Bhopal is organised with the theme of “Vocal for Local” from March 12 to 21 in which more than 600 artisans, craftsmen from over 31 States and UTs are participating in the event.

According to the ministry, artisans from Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir among other states have brought rare elegant and magnificent indigenous handmade products.

“Products like ajrakh print, applique work, art metal ware, artificial jewellery, bagh print, block print, jute-bamboo products, brass products, Khadi products, leather products, clay-wooden-metal toys, marble products, sandalwood etc. are available at Hunar Haat in Bhopal,” the ministry noted.

Naqvi at the event said that the Hunar Haat have proved to be “Employment and Empowerment Exchange” of artisans and craftsmen.

“The Ministry of Minority Affairs will provide employment and employment opportunities to 7 lakh 50,000 artisans and craftsmen through 75 “Hunar Haat” which will be organised by completion of 75 years of the country’s independence,” he added.

The minister further said people can buy “Hunar Haat” products from the hunarhaat.org website as well.
