Srinagar, Aug 11 (NVI): A group of three to four terrorists are believed to be present in the Kokernag area of district Anantnag & search operations have been launched by the Security forces.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi speaking to reporters, emphasized the need to probe the civilians proximity to the terrorists during the incident.

According to the IGP, the terrorists likely crossed into the region from Doda, as the borders of Anantnag and Doda are connected.

He mentioned that the investigation is focused on understanding the circumstances that led civilians to be near the terrorists.

The IGP also reported that the gunfight resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and a civilian, with another civilian currently receiving medical treatment.

An extensive search operation is underway in the area, although the challenging terrain and weather conditions are hindering progress.

The security forces are actively working to locate and neutralize the terrorists while ensuring the safety of civilians in the region.

The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel to prevent further incidents.
