34 including Afghan soldiers, civilians freed from Taliban prison in Herat

New Delhi (NVI): In an operation conducted by Afghan commandos in Herat province last night, 34 people including members of Afghan security force and civilians were freed from a Taliban prison, according to Afghanistan Ministry of Defence.

In the operation launched in Adraskan district in the province, “six Taliban were killed, and their weapons and ammunition were seized,” the Afghan Defence Ministry was quoted as saying by TOLO News.

11 Afghan army soldiers were among those freed from the Taliban prison, besides three Afghan Air Force members, seven workers of a project, seven government employees and a public uprising force member, the Afghan news portal reports.

“Commando forces #freed 27 military members & 7 civilians from Taliban prison in Adreskan district of Herat Prov. in an operation last night. These prisoners were extensively #tortured by the TB. 6 TB were killed and some amount of their weapons & ammunition were seized asa result,” tweeted Fawad Aman, Afghan Defence Ministry spokesman.
“The Taliban prison was destroyed during the operation,” the country’s Defence Ministry told this website.

“The operation was conducted at around 11pm last night in Karocha village in Adraskan district and was continued into early Wednesday,” Herat governor Waheed Qatali said.

The Afghan security forces who conducted the operation had no casualties. The Taliban has not commented on the operation so far, according to the news portal.
