Poonch (J&K): Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police killed 4 terrorists in over 12-hour gunfight in Surankote in Poonch district, thus averting a possible terrorist attack in the region.

The encounter in the forested mountainous area of Sindarah in Surankote started last evening after the Army and police launched a search operation on the basis of input about presence of terrorists there, officials said.

The gun battle continued through the night and resulted in the killing of 4 terrorists this morning

“In a major Cordon and Search Operation, acting on specific intelligence, four terrorists were eliminated in a Joint Operation by #IndianArmy  & @JKP near Sindarah and Maidana villages in tehsil #Surankote of #Poonch district,” said a tweet by the Army.

The security forces recovered 4 AK-47 rifles, 2 Pistols & other war-like stores, beside the bodies of the terrorists.

“Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist initiated incidents in #Rajouri & #Poonch area,” the Army said.
