New Delhi (NVI): With 68,020 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day rise this year, the overall tally has climbed to 12,039,644, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.
The death count climbed to 1,61,843 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 291 lives during this period, the data showed.
Yesterday, India had recorded 62,714 new coronavirus cases. Apart from that, 312 new COVID-19 fatalities were reported across the country.
Currently, more than 1.13 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 11,355,993.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload increased to 5,21,808 with an increase of 35,498 cases in the last 24 hours, which comprises 3.35 percent of the total positive cases.
Maharashtra recorded 40,414 new cases on Sunday, yet another high for the state. Karnataka reported more than 3,000 cases for the first time since November 5.
With this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 27,13,875 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 11,17,993 and Karnataka with 9,87,012 positive cases.
The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,98,815), Tamil Nadu (8,79,473), Delhi (6,57,742) and Uttar Pradesh (6,13,798).
