Bandipora, Nov 25(NVI) : The Bandipora administration launched a eviction operation on Monday, reclaiming government quarters that had been illegally occupied by several individuals in the Irrigation Colony Sumbal area in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The eviction drive was led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, Syed Murtaza, alongside Tehsildar Sumbal and officials from the Irrigation Department, among others. The operation successfully resulted in the removal of several unauthorized occupants, including prominent political figures.
Among those evicted were Abdul Rashid Khan, a BJP leader; Jahangir Ahmad Dar, a former Municipal Committee Sumbal chairman; Ghulam Nabi Ganie, an ex-Block Development Council (BDC) chairman from Naidkhai; and social and political activist Mohammad Aslam. The government quarters were subsequently sealed during the process.
Officials stated that the purpose of the operation was to reclaim public property and enforce regulations related to government housing. An official from the Irrigation Department confirmed, “The eviction process was carried out smoothly, and the quarters have been secured.”
When contacted, SDM Syed Murtaza clarified that none of the individuals had been officially allotted the government quarters. He added that the eviction was carried out in accordance with directives from higher authorities to remove unauthorized occupants.(News Vibes of India)
