Srinagar (NVI): A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed in a militant attack today in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials told NVI that the militants, who attacked the CRPF party, had earlier lobbed a grenade at the forces personnel, which, however, failed to explode.
“A few minutes after hurling the grenade, the militants fired at the CRPF party indiscriminately in which a CRPF man was critically injured,” an official said.
CRPF spokesman in Srinagar, Pankaj Singh said the injured CRPF jawan was immediately moved to the hospital, but he died on the way. “The slain CRPF man was identified as head constable Shiv Lal Netam, a resident of Chattisgarh. He was part of 90 battalion CRPF,” Singh said.
Soon after the attack, security forces cordoned off the entire area and a massive manhunt was launched to nab the attackers.
