Over 4 million Covid-19 cases globally, deaths exceed 2,79,000

US sees highest single-day spike in Covid cases

New Delhi (NVI): The confirmed Covid-19 cases across the world stand at a whopping 4.02 million, with 87,729 cases reported in the past 24 hours, according to US-based John Hopkins University.

There have been 2,79,000 deaths globally, with 5,429 in 24 hours. Meanwhile, 1.38 people have recovered from the deadly virus so far.

The United States is the worst-affected country where 79,696 people have lost their lives due to the pandemic. The country has 1.34 million confirmed Covid-19 cases and 2,01,000 recoveries. 25,562 fresh cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.

Apart from this, the UK has the highest number of deaths in Europe at 31,587. The country has 2,15,000 confirmed cases so far with 3,896 freshly reported cases.

Russia is now the world’s fifth-most infected country, with more than 1,99,000 confirmed cases, surpassing Germany and France, as per Johns Hopkins University data. The country has reported 1,827 deaths so far (104 in past 24 hours). It is behind the US, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
