AIIB approves $250 mn support to help Bangladesh combat COVID-19

New Delhi (NVI): The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a USD 250 million loan for Bangladesh as the country grapples with the fallout of the novel coronavirus.

The support is a part of a program to mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic on the country’s poor and most vulnerable, particularly those affected by job losses in small and medium enterprises and the informal sector, as well as strengthen social safety nets.

Meanwhile, the total number of deaths from coronavirus in Bangladesh has reached 408 after 22 more people lost their lives in the last 24 hours, according to United News of Bangladesh.

The total number of coronavirus infections rose to 28,511 after 1,773 new infections were reported during this period.

In different hospitals of the country including Dhaka City 395 people have recovered in the last 24 hours increasing the total number of recoveries to 5,602.
