New Delhi (NVI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued red alert for Mumbai and other coastal areas of Maharashtra following heavy rainfall in the region.
The Met department said that the rains in Mumbai continued for the third consecutive day. The city has been witnessing heavy rains since Tuesday night, resulting in water logging in many areas.
In the last 24 hours, several Mumbai areas like Bandra, Bandra Kurla Complex, Santacruz, Colaba, Mahalaxmi, Worli have received over 10 cm of rainfall.
The Met department has predicted that the captial would continue to receive heavy rains for almost six more hours.
The city is also likely to experience a general cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs. Isolated regions are also expected to receive very heavy rain as well, IMD said.

However, to ensure the safety of the public, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged everyone to follow all necessary precautions, stay away from the shore, and not venture out into waterlogged areas.
