India’s COVID tally crosses 2 million; death toll at 41,585

New Delhi (NVI): India coronavirus tally has crossed the 2 million mark and stands at 20,27,074, with the confirmation of biggest single-day jump 62,538 in last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

In addition to this, this is the first time that India crossed 60,000-mark in a single day.

Meanwhile, the country’s death toll stands at 41,585 with 886 new fatalities being reported during this period.

So far, 13,78,106 patients have recovered all over the country. With this, the recovery rate rises to 68 per cent.

In terms of total number of cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 4,79,779 coronavirus cases followed by Tamil Nadu (2,79,144), Andhra Pradesh (1,96,789) and Delhi (1,41,531).

The other worst affected states includes Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan.

In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 16,792 deaths, ministry said.

The death toll in the national capital rose to 4,059 while another 1,27,124 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to August 6 is 2,27,24,134 including 5,74,783 samples tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has asked the Centre to issue guidelines on the development of vaccines for COVID-19 besides decentralising the authority for fast-tracking testing and approvals.
