India’s COVID tally crosses 20.88 lakh; death toll tops 42,000

New Delhi (NVI): India coronavirus tally stands at 20,88,611, with the confirmation of 61,537 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

In addition to this, this is second consecutive day when India crossed 60,000-mark in a single day.

Meanwhile, the country’s death toll stands at 42,518 with 933 new fatalities being reported during this period.

So far, 14,27,006 patients have recovered all over the country.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 4,90,262 coronavirus cases followed by Tamil Nadu (2,85,024), Andhra Pradesh (2,06,960) and Delhi (1,42,723).

The other worst hit states includes Karnataka, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Rajasthan.

In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 17,092 deaths, ministry said.

The death toll in the national capital rose to 4,082 while over 1,30,000 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of COVID-19 samples tested up to August 7 is 2,33,87,171, including 5,98,778 samples tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, the government has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan package, the insurance scheme for health care workers fighting COVID-19 for a further period of 90 days.
