India’s Covid tally reaches 21,53,011 with highest single-day spike

New Delhi (NVI): With the highest single-day spike of 64,399 coronavirus cases, India’s Covid-19 tally has reached 21,53,011, the Ministry of Health said today.

861 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of casualties due to the virus to 43,379.

According to the Health Ministry, 14.8 lakh patients have recovered so far, taking the recovery rate to 68.78 per cent. There are 6,28,747 active cases now.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country has reported the highest single-day spike of 12,822 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally in the state to 5,03,084. 275 Covid patients have succumbed in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in the state to 17,367.

Besides, a record 11,082 patients were also discharged from hospitals, taking the tally of recovered coronavirus patients to 3,38,362. There are 1,47,048 active coronavirus patients in Maharashtra now.

India, the worst-hit country by the pandemic has been recording higher single-day cases than the US and Brazil.

Apart from that, for eleven straight days now, Covid-19 cases have in India have risen by over 50,000. Globally, over 19.5 million cases of coronavirus and 7.25 lakh deaths have been reported.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari today tweeted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tested negative now. Shah had tested positive for the virus a week ago and was treated at Gurgaon’s Medanta hospital.

In another news, at least nine people were killed today in a fire due to a short circuit at a hotel in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, that was being used to treat coronavirus patients.
