New Delhi (NVI): Former President Pranab Mukherjee, who underwent brain surgery on Monday, continues to remain critical and presently he is “haemodynamically stable and on ventilator”, Army’s Research and Referal (RR) Hospital said in a statement today.

He was admitted to RR Hospital in Delhi Cantt on Monday in a critical condition. He underwent a brain surgery to remove a clot in his brain and since then his condition has not shown any improvement. Mukherjee was put on ventilator on Monday.

He was also found to be Covid positive the same day. “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for Covid-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19,” Mukherjee had tweeted when he was with the virus.

The hospital had last evening stated that the 84-year-old leader’s health has not shown any improvement and he continues to remain on ventilator support.

Earlier today, Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha tweeted that it was exactly a year ago that her father was conferred with the Bharat Ratna and now he is in a critical condition.

“Last year, August 8 was one of the happiest day for me as my dad received Bharat Ratna. Exactly a year later, on August 10, he fell critically ill. May God do whatever is best for him and give me strength to accept both joys and sorrows of life with equanimity. I sincerely thank all 4 their concerns,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, villagers from West Bengal’s Birbhum district were performing ‘Maha Mrityunjay Yajna’ at the Japeshwar Shiva temple in Mukherjee’s native place Mirati, for his speedy recovery.
