The first day of the Chingam month is considered auspicious for weddings, moving into a new house, buying a new vehicle and to start new ventures.
Although Vishu (first of Medam month) is the astronomical new year day in Kerala, the official Malayalam new year falls on the first day of Chingam.
Most of the temples across the state witness a huge rush as Hindus began the day by visiting temples. This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic large number of people won’t be seen visiting temples.
