New Delhi (NVI): The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 around the world has now exceeded 21.8 million, and more than 7,73,000 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University. Nearly 13.8 million people have recovered from the disease.
In the US, the total number of infections have crossed 5.4 million while the death toll has surpassed 1,70,000 in the country.
Brazil reported 19,373 new cases of coronavirus and a further 684 deaths in the past 24 hours. With this, the country has now registered 3,359,570 cases of the virus since the pandemic began, while the official death toll from Covid-19 has risen to 1,08,536.
The Australian state of Victoria has reported its lowest number of coronavirus cases in a month, raising hopes that the second wave outbreak in the state is slowing. Victoria reported 222 cases of the disease in the last 24 hours. It also reported a further 17 deaths.
New Zealand reported 13 new cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours. 12 of the cases are linked to an existing cluster that forced the lockdown of Auckland – the country’s biggest city.
New Zealand has ruled out frozen food and freight as the origin of the coronavirus outbreak that pushed Auckland back into lockdown.
The WHO says younger people – those in their 20s, 30s and 40s – are the ones now driving the coronavirus pandemic and many don’t know they have the virus.
