LeT commander among 2 terrorists killed J&K’s Handwara

Srinagar (NVI): A Lashkar-e-Taiba commander was among two terrorists killed in an encounter with forces that broke out late today at Ganipora area of Kralgund in north Kashmir’s Handwara, J&K Police said today.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said the slain Lashkar commander, identified as Naseer-u-din Lone was involved in the killing of 3 CRPF jawans at Sopore in April this year and 3 other CRPF personnel at Handwara in May.

“LeT Cmdr Naseer-u-din Lone, who was #involved in #killing of 3 CRPF jawans at #Sopore on 18/4/20 and 3 CRPF jawans at #Handwara on 4/5/20, got killed: IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar,” Kashmir zone police said in a tweet.

Earlier, J&K police officials said that a combined operation was launched after specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area following which the encounter took place at Ganipora, Kralgund in Handwara.

“Joint operation was launched today late evening in the orchards of Ganipora. Cordon was laid and contact established. Firefight ensued. Two terrorists eliminated. Joint operation in progress,” Defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia told NVI.

Kashmir Zone Police also said in an earlier tweet, “#HandwaraEncounterUpdate: 02 #unidentified #terrorists killed. #Search going on. Further details shall follow.”

This is the second encounter in Kashmir today as one militant was killed in the afternoon in a gunbattle at Molu Chutergam, in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
