Gunfight rages in J&K’s Budgam

Srinagar (NVI): A gunfight started between terrorists and security forces in Nowhar Chrar-e-Sharief area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district this evening, officials said.

They said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 53 RR and 181 Bn of CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Nowhar village of Charar-i-Sharief on the basis of specific lead about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter,” the officials said. He said that the exchange of fire was going on and it is believed that two to three militants are trapped in the village.

Earlier in the morning, terrorists attacked a patrolling party of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Nowgam area of Srinagar, however, no casualty was reported, officials said.
