New Delhi (NVI): Delhi’s deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia today announced that all schools in Delhi will remain closed until next order, in view of the COVID-19 situation in the national capital.
Addressing a virtual press conference, Sisodia said it is not safe to reopen schools yet and that parents are also not in favour. “Due to corona in Delhi, all schools will remain closed till further orders. Currently, online-semi-online studies will continue,” he added.
Sisodia further announced that, “Delhi government has decided to increase 1,330 seats in colleges that are under IP University.”
Earlier, the Delhi government had announced that all government and private schools will remain closed till October 31.
Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16, when the Centre announced a nationwide classroom shutdown, to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
However, from September 21, schools in a few states resumed classes for students of 10th and 12th as Centre gave a go-ahead in its Unlock 5 guidelines.
The national capital today recorded 4,853 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day spike till date, taking the overall caseload to over 3.64 lakh. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 death toll in Delhi stands at 6,356.
