New Delhi (NVI): The country has been recording less than 50,000 infections for the last five days and the active cases have fallen below the six lakh mark, to a level seen in the first week of August.

The active cases now stands at 5,94,386 in the country, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Furthermore, the national recovery rate has risen to 91.15 per cent while the case fatality rate stands at 1.50 per cent.

India added over 48,500 new cases in a matter of 24 hours, taking the total tally near 80.9 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected nation. This includes over 1.2 lakh deaths and 73.7 lakh patients who have recovered.

The slower pace of daily infections and an improved recovery rate have led to a fairly drastic decline in active cases. They have fallen below the 6-lakh mark for the first time since Aug. 6 after climbing above 10 lakh in mid-September. Active cases now account for less than 8% of the total caseload.

In addition to this, India continues to be the topmost country with maximum number of recovered cases globally. The difference between active cases and recovered cases is consistently increasing and stands at 6,778,989 today.
