India, Myanmar Naval exercise begins in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam (NVI): The second edition of India Myanmar Naval Exercise’ IMNEX-19 commenced on October 20 during which the INS Ranvijay, a guided-missile destroyer and INS Kuthar, a missile corvette, will carry joint exercise with Myanmar Naval ships — UMS Sin Phyu Shin, a frigate and UMS Tabinshweti, a corvette in the Bay of Bengal.

During the drill that will conclude on October 22, both the navies will undertake a variety of evolution including anti air and surface firing exercises, flying exercises using integral helicopter and seamanship evolution at sea, a defence statement said.

Meanwhile, the harbour phase of the drill concluded on October 20.

The joint exercises this year have increased in scope and complexity and is a testimony of growing maritime cooperation between the two navies.

Both the navies will also engage in professional interaction for sharing of expertise on various maritime issues.

Earlier on October 18, the opening ceremony of the India Myanmar Naval Exercise was conducted onboard INS Ranvijay.

On arrival, Capt Tet Lwin Tun, Fleet Cdr, 1st fleet accompanied by Cdr Sai Thet Naing, CO UMS King Tapin Shwe Htee and Cdr Kyaw Thain Kha, CO UMS King Sin Phyu Shin called on Vice Adm Atul Kumar Jain Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
