New Delhi (NVI): After eight months of suspending operations due to COVID-19 pandemic, suburban trains resume operations in West Bengal from today.
The local train services under the administration of the Eastern and the South Eastern Railways resumed early in the morning. In addition to this, the railway authorities have requested the passengers to follow to the COVID-19 guidelines. Under the guidelines, trains will be operated with 50 per cent capacity.
The authorities has also urged commuters to strictly observe protocol, such as use of hand sanitisers, face masks and maintaining social distancing during their travel.
Yesterday, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Railways will operate 696 suburban services in West Bengal from November 11.
However, the Eastern Railway is operating 413 suburban trains in Sealdah division and 202 in Howrah division from today, as per the official data.
Furthermore, the Kolkata Metro will also restart their operations in the city with an increase in the number of daily trains on weekdays by 25 per cent starting today.
