Centre assures full backing to Manipur on insurgency

New Delhi (NVI): The Centre has assured its full support to Manipur in tackling insurgency, modernization of State Police force and deployment of Central Armed Police Forces.

The assurance came from Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy during his address to the personnel of Assam Rifles in Mantripukhri, Imphal on October 22, an official statement said.

“Assam Rifles played a crucial role in controlling insurgent groups and ensuring peace and harmony in the North Eastern Region,” Reddy said.

“The personnel of Assam Rifles are regarded as the friends of the people of the North East due to their valour, commitment and selfless service,” he said.

Saluting valiant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation, Reddy assured adding, “Welfare of soldiers and their families will always remain close to his heart.”

He also commended the role of personnel in their operational achievements and success in the field of sports and adventure.

On the last day of the visit to North East, Reddy co-chaired a security review meeting with Chief Minister Biren Singh at the CM Secretariat, Imphal, in which he reviewed security preparedness as well as facilities available for the personnel of State force.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of Central Armed Police Forces and the State including Chief Secretary and DGP of Manipur.
