New Delhi (NVI): India has cautioned its citizens to exercise “utmost caution” while travelling to Turkey, which has been engaged in a military campaign in Syria.
The travel advisory, issued by the Indian Embassy in Turkey on October 22, said the government of India has been receiving queries from Indian nationals on travelling to the country “in view of the situation” in the region.
“Although there has been no report of the untoward incident in the country so far involving Indian nationals, travellers are requested to exercise utmost caution while travelling to Turkey,” the advisory said.
It added that “Those who require assistance may get in touch with Indian Mission and Posts the following helpline number.”

Turkey on October 9 launched a military campaign in North Syria against Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), claiming that the mission was to target “terrorists”.
The “unilateral” military action by Turkey has been condemned by India, which said it would undermine peace in the region.
India spoke against Turkey’s action against the backdrop of Ankara criticizing the developments in Jammu and Kashmir after the abolition of its special status granted under Article 370.
Turkey has also been openly expressing support to Pakistan in its campaign to internationalise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
