Coronavirus cases surge past 65.8 million globally

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 65.8 million, with over 15,18,500 deaths reported, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Over 42 million patients have recovered from the deadly contagion globally.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus cases have reached more than 14.35 million. The total number of fatalities have surpassed 2,79,700 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases has surpassed 6.53 million, while the country accounts for the second highest number of fatalities at 1,75,964.

Mexico has registered 12,127 new COVID-19 cases within the past 24 hours, pushing the total number to 11,56,770. The death toll has risen by 690 to 1,08,863 people within the same period of time.

The health authorities of Canada reported 3,763 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the overall infection tally to 400,031, amid a raging second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the South Australia will resume accepting returned Australians on international flights from next week after arrivals were suspended because of a cluster of COVID-19 cases.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, the progress on COVID-19 vaccines is positive but the organization is concerned about a growing perception the pandemic has come to an end.
