India’s COVID-19 tally surge to 99.56 lakh with 24,010 new cases

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India increased to 99,56,558 with a single-day rise of 24,010 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, Union Health Ministry confirmed.

With 355 fresh deaths reported in last 24 hours, the country’s overall death toll has reached to 1,44,451.

However, India’s average daily count of COVID-19 cases has fallen below 30,000 and the average count of deaths reported each day also declined to under 400 for the first time in last five months.

At present, 94,89,740 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country, while the active cases remained below 3.25-lakh mark and stands at 3,22,366

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases surpassed 18,86,807 followed by Karnataka with 9,04,665 cases, and Andhra Pradesh with 8,76,814 positive cases.

Other states with a high virus hit included Tamil Nadu (8,02,342), Kerala (6,83,440) and Uttar Pradesh (5,69,263).

Meanwhile, of the total deaths, Maharashtra tops the tally with 48,434 fatalities, followed by Karnataka with 11,971 deaths.

Delhi has also registered 6,11,994 cases of coronavirus, while the death toll from the virus has reached 10,147 in the national capital.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), more than 15.78 crore samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 16. Of these, 11,58,960 samples were tested yesterday.

Furthermore, as the COVID-19 vaccination programme will soon begin in India, the Chandigarh administration has geared itself on how to vaccinate people when it will be available and also preparing sites to store vaccines.
