New Delhi (NVI): Northern Ireland will enter a six-week new lockdown starting from December 26 in a bid to contain a surge in coronavirus cases.

Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill made the announcement and said the lockdown, agreed by the Northern Ireland Executive, would start on Boxing Day (December 26) and be reviewed after four weeks, according to the reports.

Under the new lockdown measures, which will come into force at 00.01 am on December 26, all non-essential businesses as well the hair salon, pubs, bars and restaurants apart from takeaway services will remain closed in the region.

“There was no other way and the message come Boxing Day will be work from home, and stay at home, ” he added.
