40% of active corona cases in Kerala, Maharashtra

New Delhi (NVI): Kerala and Maharashtra have 40% of the active Covid-19 cases out of the total active cases in India, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) said today.

“33 States and UTs have less than 20,000 Active Cases. Kerala & Maharashtra together account for 40% of total #COVID19 active cases,” the Health Ministry said in a tweet.

India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 1-crore mark yesterday with 25,153 new cases.

Other states with a high number of active Covid-19 cases are — West Bengal (19,065), Uttar Pradesh (17,955), and Chhattisgarh (17,488).

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country stands at 3,08,751 while 95,50,712 have recovered from the infection so far. The first case of coronavirus was reported from Kerala on 30 January.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan yesterday said that India is at the cusp of authorising the first set of COVID-19 vaccines and the vaccination drive will cover the target populations estimated to be about 30 crores.

India, which is the second worst-hit nation by the pandemic after US, now has a recovery rate of 95.4 per cent.
