New Delhi (NVI): India and Pakistan today exchanged the list of nuclear installations and facilities, covered under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between the two countries.
This is a customary exercise on nuclear installations between the two countries, done on 1st January of every year. The agreement prohibits both the countries from attacking each other’s atomic facilities.
The Agreement, which was signed on 31 December 1988 and entered into force on 27 January 1991 provides, inter alia, that India and Pakistan inform each other of the nuclear installations and facilities to be covered under the Agreement on the first of January of every calendar year, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
This is the 30th consecutive exchange of such list between the two countries, the first one having taken place on January 01, 1992, it said.
The exchange of information comes amidst strained ties between the two countries.
The relations between India and Pakistan soured recently after the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF soldiers and Islamabad’s growing friendship with China which is engaged in unprovoked military actions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that have spiralled into a huge stand-off in Ladakh region.
