New Delhi (NVI): The United States has recorded its highest single-day spike in fresh coronavirus cases, with more than 277,000 infections in the last 24 hours. This comes when the country is already the worst affected due to the pandemic in the world.
Dr Anthony S Fauci, top infectious disease expert in the US warned just days after Christmas that the worst is not over yet. He has said that the situation is driving the country to a “critical point” as holiday travel spreads the virus.
Pertinent to mention here that with the new strain of coronavirus detected in the UK, many countries in the world have pushed back immediate travel curbs, especially on the flights to and from the European country.
Meanwhile, the United States has recorded 20.4 million cases so far and about 3,50,000 deaths.
Although the vaccination drive is on in the US, as more than 4.2 million people have already received their first Covid vaccine shots, the increasing number of cases and overstretched hospitals pose another challenge.
In Europe, the UK has also broken its daily record of new Covid cases, with 57,725 cases in a single day. The situation seems alarming in the wake of a new coronavirus strain. The UK is likely to overtake Italy and become the worst-hit country in Europe, according to reports.
