India records 18,088 Covid cases in last 24 hours; death toll tops 1.5 lakh

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India have surpassed 10.37 million and currently stands at 1,03,74,932, with an increase of 18,088 cases in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 1,50,114 with 264 fatalities registered during this period.

Furthermore, the number of active cases stayed below three lakh, at 2,27,546, according to health ministry update.

India’s active Covid-19 cases are steadily falling which has led to a decline in the overall burden on the health delivery structure.

Notably, 99,97,272 patients have recovered from the deadly contagion all over the country while active Covid-19 cases have dropped further to 2.27 lakh mark and stands at 2,27,546.

In addition to this, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with total 19,50,171 confirmed Covid-19 cases which include 49,695 deaths. The active cases in the state stand at 50,223 and 18,50,189 recoveries.

Meanwhile, Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Tuesday said that they are prepared to roll out the mass immunisation programme within 10 days, days after two vaccines — Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and Covishield, a variant of Oxford AstraZeneca’s AZD1222 manufactured under licence by the Serum Institute of India — got regulatory approval.
