Bird Flu confirmed in Delhi, all 8 samples found positive

New Delhi (NVI): Bird Flu cases have been confirmed in Delhi after all 8 samples of the dead crows and ducks were found positive for the avian influenza (AI) in lab tests.

Delhi’s Animal Husbandry Department said, “All the samples tested positive for avian flu.”

As many as 91 crows and 27 ducks were found dead across 15 Delhi Development Authority (DDA) parks in Delhi on Sunday, prompting the authorities to declare in an ‘alert zone’.

Maharashtra too had confirmed the presence of avian flu today with test results showing that 800 chickens died of the flu at Murumba village in Parbhani district.

With this, nine states in the country have confirmed bird flu cases so far. The eight other states are – Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Haryana has reported the most number of bird deaths; more than 4 lakh birds have died in the last few weeks. Jammu and Kashmir and Chhattisgarh are also on alert.

The central government on Sunday said it has directed zoo managements to submit daily reports to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) till their area is declared free from the disease.
