New Delhi (NVI): More than 91.5 million people around the world have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, while the death toll has crossed 19,61,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Over 50.5 million patients have recovered from the deadly disease globally.
The number of coronavirus infections in the US have surpassed 22.8 million, while the number of fatalities caused due to the deadly contagion have exceeded 3,80,000 in the country.
Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 8.1 million-mark and stands at 8,195,612 while the number of deaths have surged past 2,04,000.
Meanwhile, China has recorded the biggest daily jump in Covid cases in more than five months, despite three cities in lockdown. The National Health Commission said in a statement that a total of 115 new confirmed cases were reported in the mainland compared with 55 a day earlier. This was the highest daily increase since July 30.
France reported 19,753 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours on Tuesday, while the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units continued to rise.
In addition to this, the Netherlands is extending coronavirus restrictions until 9 February as infections are still high and the government is “very concerned” about the UK variant of the disease, prime minister Mark Rutte said.
The World Health Organization’s investigative mission will fly directly to Wuhan, China’s foreign ministry has confirmed.
