New Delhi (NVI): As part of India’s Look East policy and to further cement Indo-Japanese strategic and defence cooperation, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 29 called Defence Minister of Japan Taro Kono.
In telephonic conversation, the two exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional security situation, an official statement said.
Expressing satisfaction on the robust defence cooperation between India and Japan, Rajnath recalled his successful meetings with the Prime Minister of Japan Mr Shinzo Abe and the then Defence Minister of Japan Mr Takeshi lwaya during his visit to Japan in September 2019, the statement said.
The defence minister also congratulated Taro Kono on behalf of the government for the enthronement of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito.
He expressed deep condolences for the loss of lives and property caused due to recent Typhoon Hagibis that hit Japan earlier this month.
Also, he commended the Japan government for its efforts to provide relief and succour to the people affected by the typhoon, according to an official statement.
During the September 2019 visit of Rajnath Singh, India and Japan had agreed that more synergy should be realized in Defence Equipment and Technology co-operation. Indo-Pacific vision, strategic and global partnership between India and Japan in addressing emerging regional security scenario including developments in the Korean Peninsula and in the South China Sea, Joint Naval exercises and regular exchange of idea were some of the highlights of Indo-Japan defence dialogue.
