India’s Covid tally past 10.5 mn; 15,590 new cases in last 24 hours

New Delhi (NVI): India registered 15,590 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 10,527,683, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 1,51,918 with 191 fatalities registered during this period.

Meanwhile, more than 10.1 million people have recovered from the virus and the total recoveries currently stands at 10,162,738 while active Covid-19 cases have dropped further to 2.1 lakh mark and stands at 2,13,027.

The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (19,81,623), Karnataka (9,29,960), Andhra Pradesh (8,85,616), Tamil Nadu (8,28,952), Kerala (8,31,259).

In another development, the nationwide vaccination drive, to kick start from January 16, will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing. This will be the world’s largest vaccination program covering the entire length and breadth of the country.

Furthermore, following the Delhi government’s order allowing schools to reopen for students of classes 10 and 12 from January 18, the school administrations have started preparing to keep COVID-19 safety norms in place.

In addition to this, no new Covid-19 cases were reported in Mizoram in the last 24 hours.
