New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged off eight trains facilitating seamless rail connectivity between different regions of the country and Kevadiya, home to the Statue of Unity dedicated to Vallabhbhai Patel, in Gujarat via video-conferencing.

PM Modi had yesterday said that the Kevadiya railway station is India’s first with green building certification.
“Now, more reason to visit the ‘Statue of Unity!’ This iconic statue, a tribute to the great Sardar Patel is connected via railways to different regions of India. 8 trains will be flagged off tomorrow, 17 January at 11 AM. Do watch the programme live,” PM said in a tweet.

Apart from that, several other projects relating to the railways has also been inaugurated during the event. These include the new station buildings of Kevadiya, Dabhoi, and Chandon.
One of the trains is the Jan Shatabdi Express between Ahmedabad and Kevadia which will have Vistadome coaches, PM Modi said while posting some pictures of the train coaches.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that the regions of the country that are unconnected and left behind are being connected through railways connection.
PM Modi underlined change in approach in railways infrastructure development in recent times. “This change has led to unprecedented progress in modernization in Indian Railways,” he said.
He said that earlier focus was limited to keeping the existing infrastructure running and there was little attention on new thinking or new technology.
“It was imperative to change this approach. In the recent years, work was done on comprehensive transformation of entire railway system and it wasn’t limited to tinkering with budget and new train announcements. The transformation took place on many fronts,” he said.
The PM also gave example of the present project of connecting Kevadiya where multi-pronged focus led to completion of the task in record time.
He also presented Dedicated Freight Corridor as an example of change in approach from earlier times. The Prime Minister dedicated the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors recently. This project was under progress and between 2006-2014 work was done only on papers with not even a single kilometre track laid. Now a total of 1100 Kilometre are about to be completed in next few months.
