New Delhi (NVI): The Union Health Ministry today said the concerns over adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines post immunisation seem to be unfounded and insignificant, and that both the vaccines– Covishield and Covaxin — are safe.

Addressing a Health Ministry media briefing here, Dr VK Paul, Member, Niti Aayog said, “The concerns about adverse effects and serious problems, as of now, seem to be insignificant. Data shows that we are in a comfortable situation and we would like to reassure you that the two COVID-19 vaccines are safe.”

“We would like to reassure with the data we have seen that the two COVID-19 vaccines are safe. The vaccine hesitancy should end. How will we defeat the pandemic then?” Paul added.

The health ministry, in its briefing also informed that 0.18 per cent of adverse events happened following immunization of vaccine and 0.002 per cent of people were hospitalized following immunization, which is fairly low.

“These are fairly low, and the lowest so far in the world in the first three days,” Paul said.

He also requested doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to not hesitate in getting the vaccine shots. “We are not fulfilling our societal responsibility if a vaccine assigned to you is not being taken. The whole world is clamouring for the vaccine. I request the doctors and nurses to accept the vaccine,” he said.
