New Delhi (NVI): More than 96.1 million people around the world have been confirmed to have the coronavirus, while the death toll has crossed 2,056,000 according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. Over 52.9 million patients have recovered from the deadly disease globally.
The number of coronavirus infections in the US have surpassed 24.2 million, while the number of fatalities caused due to the deadly contagion have exceeded 4,01,000 in the country.
Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 8.5 million-mark and stands at 8,573,864 while the number of deaths have surged past 2,11,000.
Meanwhile, China’s National Health Commission said on Wednesday that a total of 103 new cases were reported on 19 January, down from 118 a day earlier.
Mexico reported its highest daily death toll since the coronavirus pandemic began, with 1,584 deaths confirmed Tuesday. There was also a near-record one-day rise in new virus cases of 18,894.
In addition to this, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday that Germany is extending its pandemic restrictions, including the closure of schools and stores, until mid-February amid concerns that new mutations of the coronavirus could trigger a fresh surge in cases.
The UK has reported the highest number of daily deaths since the pandemic started, as new data showed one in eight people are likely to have had the virus in England.
