Jammu (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving Ratle Power Project and said that it will create at least 4,000 jobs for those who are unemployed in the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference, LG Sinha said that notwithstanding Pakistan threats, PM Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet approved 850 Mega Watt Rattle power project.
He added that this project that will be commissioned in five years which will provide jobs to jobless directly and indirectly.
“Let me declare that the Cabinet that met under the chairmanship of PM Modi has granted sanction to the 850 MW Rattle power project worth Rs 5,822 crore. The project will be commissioned in five years,” LG Sinha said.
The Ratle Hydroelectric Plant is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station currently under construction on the Chenab River, downstream of the village near Drabshalla in Kishtwar district of Jammu. The project includes a 133 meter tall gravity dam and two power stations adjacent to one another.
LG Sinha also said that Rattle power project has been approved despite threats from Pakistan that it would take the issue to International court and the World Bank.
He in response to a question has said that the project will create 4,000 direct and indirect jobs, and preference will be given to the local youth of J&K.
Pertinently, Pakistan has frequently alleged that it violates the Indus Water Treaty, allegation that India has forcefully refuted.
LG Sinha further said that, “We are committed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to each household in coming times”
“The project share will be 51 per cent by NHPC and 49 per cent by J&K SPDC,” he said adding that in future, Jammu and Kashmir Administration will invest Rs 52, 821 crores in power sector.
“In next five years, 12,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created and first preference will be given to local youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” Sinha added.
