WHO chief thanks India, PM Modi for support to global COVID-19 response

New Delhi (NVI): After US lauded India for supplying COVID-19 doses to South Asian nations, World Health Organization chief thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for continued support to global Covid-19 response.

WHO’s Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus today tweeted, “Thank you #India and Prime Minister @narendramodi for your continued support to the global #COVID19 response. Only if we #ACTogether, including sharing of knowledge, can we stop this virus and save lives and livelihoods.”

Furthermore, earlier in the day, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also expressed his gratitude towards PM Modi for exporting the Covid-19 vaccine.

Bolsonaro had thanked India by tweeting an image of the Hindu god Hanuman carrying the vaccines to Brazil and said that he feels honoured to have a great partner like India to overcome a global obstacle.

In the last few days, India has supplied Covid-19 vaccines to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Myanmar and Bangladesh.

In addition to this, India also shipped the first consignments of Oxford and AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine which is being developed by the Serum Institute of India to Brazil and Morocco on Friday.
