New Delhi (NVI): A claim is being made on social media that the central government has ordered a complete lockdown in the country till January 31, 2021, to contain coronavirus.
Debunking such claims, the Fact Check Unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarified that the news is fake and no such announcement has been made by the government.
“Claim: A document is being shared on social media with a claim that the government has ordered a complete #Lockdown in the country till January 31, 2021, to contain #Coronavirus.
#PIBFactCheck: This claim is #Fake. No such announcement has been made by the Government of India,” PIB tweeted.

The document being shared on social media states, “In order to contain the novel coronavirus, the Government of India has extended the lockdown in the country, including Delhi, till 31.01.2021 and specifically prohibited all kinds of large assemblies and congregation of religious, political, social and cultural nature are prohibited.”
Earlier in December, a similar report claiming that 15-day nationwide lockdown has been announced to contain the spread of coronavirus went viral.
The PIB launched this fact-checking unit in December last year, to check such misinformation and viral fake news related to government’s policies and schemes that are circulating on social media platforms.
