India’s Covid tally rises by 8,587 fresh cases, lowest in 8 months

New Delhi (NVI): With 8,587 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, lowest single-day rise in nearly eight months, India’s overall COVID-19 tally reached 10,766,245, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

Daily deaths from Covid-19 in India also fell below 100 for the first time since May 14 last year, with 94 fatalities being reported in the last 24 hours. With this, the death toll in the country has reached 1,54,486.

The daily new COVID-19 cases and deaths continue to follow a downward slide.

Currently, more than 1.04 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country, while the active cases further dropped to 1.63 lakh-mark and stands at 1,63,353.

In worst-affected Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases increased to 20,28,347 followed by Karnataka with 9,39,775 and Kerala with 9,32,637 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh, (8,87,900), Tamil Nadu (8,38,842), Delhi (6,35,217) and Uttar Pradesh (6,00,470).

In another development, more than 39.5 lakh (39,50,156) beneficiaries have received the vaccination as on February 2, till 8:00 am under the nationwide COVID19 inoculation exercise.
