Delhi’s fifth sero survey shows 56% people have antibodies against Covid-19

New Delhi (NVI): Around 56 per cent population in Delhi have developed antibodies against the coronavirus, shows the fifth serological survey conducted in the national capital.

The results of the sero-prevalence survey, carried out in Delhi from January 15 to 23, were announced by Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain today.

Taking to Twitter, Satyendra Jain said, “In the fifth sero survey done in the national capital of Delhi, antibodies have been detected in 56.13 % of population. This was the largest survey being done by the Delhi Government.”

“Delhi has largely won over COVID-19, though we should continue to practice COVID appropriate behaviour,” he added.

The minister in his tweet also shared a graph which showed that samples collected from Southeast Delhi district reported maximum sero-prevalence at 62.18 per cent and North Delhi, at 49.09 per cent saw the lowest.

Notably, the latest survey in Delhi, which is also the largest in the country so far, used better technology and was done using samples collected from every ward, thus ensuring a larger and wider pool.

Over 28,000 samples were collected from eleven districts in the national capital during the survey.

Earlier in July, 2020, the first sero-prevalence, done by the Delhi government in association with the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), had used 21,387 samples and found that around over 23 per cent of the population in the city had and exposure to the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded only 3 deaths due to the COVID-19, while 121 new cases were reported from across the city, pushing the overall tally to 6,35, 217, the Health Ministry data shows.
