New Delhi (NVI): The air quality in National Capital has touched a level which is now directly affecting human lives especially children and elderly.

According to UNICEF India report, the air has become so toxic that breathing in it is like “a baby is smoking 25 cigarettes a day”

Moreover, over 6,00,000 children under the age of five die every year from diseases linked to air pollution, report said.

Young children are at higher risk of contracting disease due to air pollution as they breathe twice fast than adults.

The UNICEF has warned that, “This terrifying air pollution is a wake-up call for all world.”

Meanwhile, according to a WHO survey, Air Pollution in India is estimated to kill 1.5 million people every year, it is the fifth largest killer in India.

Similarly, a recent study by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) said that a 72 per cent increase in pollution in India has made it the “second most polluted country,” and shortened the lives of its residents by 3.4 years to 7.1 years by 2016.
