IMD predicts light rain, thunderstorm over Central and East India

New Delhi (NVI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today predicted that Central and East India is likely to witness light rainfall along with isolated thunderstorm and lightning between February 16 to 18.

According to IMD’s weather bulletin,”Under the influence of a trough in lower level easterlies, light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorm and lightning likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Marathwada during 17- 18 February.”

It added that isolated or scattered rainfall forecast over southern parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Maharashtra during 16 to 18 February.

Besides, isolated hailstorm also likely over Vidarbha on 17 and 18 February and over Chhattisgarh on 17 February, IMD said.

The Met department further said that due to the influence of a feeble Western Disturbance, isolated rainfall or snowfall very likely over Uttarakhand during 15 to 17 February.

Apart from this, dense to very dense fog predicted at some pockets very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi in the morning hours of February 16 and significant reduction in intensity & spatial distribution thereafter, IMD said bulletin said.

“Dense Fog in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the morning hours of February 16,” it added.

Furthermore, the met department also warned farmers to take appropriate measures to protect their standing crops and store harvest under safe shelters, as lightning, thunder and windy conditions would prevail during these three days.
