Coronavirus cases surpass 109 million globally; death toll tops 2.4 mn

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 109 million, with over 2,407,500 deaths reported. Around 61 million patients have been cured and recovered from the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus cases have reached more than 27.6 million while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 4,86,300 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases has surpassed 9.7 million and stands at 9,866,710 while the country accounts for the second highest number of COVID-19 fatalities at 2,39,773

The Health Ministry of Mexico reported 3,098 new coronavirus cases and 450 fatalities, bringing the overall total to 1,995,892 cases with 174,657 deaths.

France has registered 412 COVID-19 deaths in last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to
82,374. The country recorded a overall tally of 3,528,850 cases, the sixth highest in the world.

Meanwhile, the Chinese mainland recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases, all from overseas, data from the National Health Commission (NHC) showed. The total number of COVID-19 cases in China has reached 89,788 and the death toll stands at 4,636.

Apart from this, the World Health Organization(WHO) gave emergency use approval to AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccines, allowing distribution to some of the world’s poorest countries to begin.
